I am inspired by the Japanese art of sashiko, which was traditionally used to reinforce and mend garments, extending their life and ultimately making them stronger. Rather than trying to restore a garment to its original state, I prefer to embrace the life it has lived — covering stains and patching holes with decorative stitchwork that becomes part of the story.
The possibilities are endless. Maybe your favorite sweater has a hole that needs a little garden of flowers. Maybe your jeans have a coffee stain that's about to become a butterfly. Or maybe there's nothing wrong at all — you just want to add a little whimsy.
At DAY : MADE, whimsy is always welcome.
